After serving 6 years in the Navy specializing in mechanics and electronics, Rich went on to build a 25-year career at Xerox, applying his strong technical background and his degree in computer science to excel in corporate environments.

When he transitioned into broadcasting nearly 20 years ago, Rich started at WICC600 in sports production—a role that was purely technical and didn’t require him to be involved with talk shows or on-air discussions. But over the last 8 years, I began inviting Rich to join me occasionally on live talk shows. That’s when something special started to unfold.

As Rich stepped out from behind the board, I saw talents I had long suspected—keen insight, natural delivery, a calm presence, and great timing. With each appearance, his confidence grew, revealing just how much more he had to offer. He currently serves as the chief meteorologist at WICC 600 AM and 107.3 FM in Bridgeport, delivering daily weather forecasts to listeners across the region. ​

Piorek’s broadcasting journey began in 1978 at WICC, where he started as an overnight host. His passion for meteorology led him to a prominent role at News 12 Connecticut, where he served as the morning meteorologist for 25 years. Throughout his broadcasting career, Piorek has been recognized with several accolades, including a New York Emmy Award in 2007 for Best Weathercast, four Connecticut Associated Press Broadcasters’ Association awards for Best TV Weathercast, and two Communicator Awards of Distinction. ​
